November 15, 2024

Dear West Running Brook Families:

We had an excellent turnout for our family conference day on Tuesday! A special thank you goes out to our wonderful PTSA who provided a delicious taco dinner to our faculty! Communication is key to our success, so please feel free to reach out to staff or the office as we continue through the year!

Today we practiced a school wide Run, Hide, Fight drill. We worked on the “hide” portion of the drill, where students and staff practice a lockdown. We are happy to report that everything went well. We will continue to practice safety drills throughout the year.

End 68 Hours of Hunger Thanksgiving Food Drive

We continue collecting food for End 68 Hours of Hunger, a volunteer effort to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some schoolchildren experience between the free lunch they receive in school on Friday afternoon and the free breakfast they receive in school on Monday morning. All donations go directly back to students in need right here in Derry, NH. Please see here for a list of suggested items. Items will be collected by house. Students should bring their donations to their pod. The winning house will receive an extra recess!

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Popcorn Days

PTSA will hold monthly popcorn days beginning next week. A form was sent home today with students. The information can also be found HERE.

Drama Club Auditions UPDATE

Due to an overwhelming number of students who wish to try out for the drama club production this year, we are adding an audition date of Wednesday, November 20th (in addition to Monday the 18th and Tuesday the 19th). We have also extended the time to 3:45 on these days.

Students need to sign up for a time outside Mr. Gore’s room (121).

Students must bring the filled out audition form to their audition.

We will also need to adjust the mandatory parent meeting day. It will now be on Tuesday, December 3. If your child is chosen for the cast, information on the meeting will be forthcoming.

Any questions, please email Patty Thomas - pthomas@sau10.org or Josh Gore - jgore@sau10.org

Book Fair

Our book fair is coming up next month. The dates are listed below. More information is available HERE.

Dates: December 9-13

Location: WRB Library

Family Event schedule and location: Thursday, December 12 4:30-7:30

PTSA Reflections

Entries for the 24-25 Reflections Program are now being accepted! Reflections is a PTA Program that encourages kids to showcase their artistic and creative side. Students can submit an entry in accessible arts, dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. Students will be judged at the school level and then may move on to state and possibly the national level.

Please note: Each entry must be the original work of one student only. An adult may not alter the creative integrity of a student’s work. Because the program is designed to encourage and recognize each student’s individual creativity, help from an adult or collaboration with other students is not allowed except in the Accessible Arts division.

This year's theme is: "Accepting Imperfection."

Due Date: December 6, 2024 (please drop off in the main office of West Running Brook)

Congratulations to this Week’s Golden Bear Award Winners:

Mr. Sag’s Advisory

The students in Mr. Sag’s advisory continue to impress him with their teamwork and inclusivity. Their responsibility and empathy are shining through with their interactions!

Mrs. Silva’s Blue 2 Spanish Class

This class is absolutely amazing! Each and every day all of the students come in excited to learn and show enthusiasm with whatever activity they’re working on! They are supportive classmates, take responsibility for their work, and consistently use incredible self control every day!  Mrs. Silva is so proud of them for so many reasons, but specifically for how well they did with their Spanish conversation presentations. All of the groups were absolute rockstars and the presentations were engaging and it was evident they put their hearts into it!  It’s a true joy to teach this class!
