Athletics at Gilbert H. Hood
Welcome to the Gilbert H Hood Middle School Athletics Website. Here you should find everything you need to know about sports at GHHMS. Each season and sport has a dedicated page with information. Some pages are a work in progress, but can be located by clicking on the navigation bar on the right hand side of the page. At Gilbert H Hood, all students in grades 7-8 are eligible to participate in Interscholastic Athletics (this includes any student that is homeschooled and resides in Derry). Tryouts for athletic programs are open to all students providing they meet the standards of academic eligibility, school citizenship, completed permission and liability information, and basic physical/health qualifications. Participation in the program, therefore, is a privilege earned by students who meet and maintain these standards.
All athletic teams at Gilbert H. Hood practice 2-3 times a week and have 1-2 games/meets each week during the season. Teams conduct tryouts at the start of each season. Home games are played at GHHMS (unless otherwise noted), and away games are played at participating school fields. All students must have a completed consent/indemnity form and an updated medical history form turned into their coach or athletic director, along with a physical on file with the school nurse in order to participate.
