Hello Gilbert H. Hood Families,
We survived another snow-filled week. Thankfully the forecast indicates we may see glimpses of Spring in the upcoming week. Some warmer weather should help with melting snow, but can also help us all feel recharged and spark some positive energy! If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to turn your clocks one hour ahead.
Reminder:
There is no school on Tuesday, March 10, due to a Teacher Workshop Day. It’s also voting day. Polls will be open at the Pinkerton Academy Hackler Gymnasium, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Lift-ups:
- Lift up to the staff and students who practiced patience and resilience during the TWO unexpected evacuations at dismissal time this week. We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and their focus on safety.
- Lift up to the students who were named to the February Husky Top 10! These students were identified by their teachers as exemplifying our “Be Husky Strong” theme. To demonstrate the attributes of being “Husky Strong” students work hard, make good choices, and show kindness to others. We appreciate how these students positively contribute to our school community. In addition, a lift up to the Rotary Student of the Month for February. Students are selected each month based on academic achievement, school involvement, and community service.
Some important information and reminders for the upcoming weeks:
If your child is absent
Reminder: It’s important for our records that you notify the office if your child is absent. You can report absences by calling us or sending an email to this address: ghhms-attendance@sau10.org
One School One Book - Continues through March
Our whole school is reading a book together! For the month of March, students and staff are reading Because of Mr. Terupt, together in advisory. This project allows us to participate in a common literacy-based activity–together, as a whole school community. When a whole school reads a book together, we’ll have a lot to talk about! Take a minute and ask your child about the book..

On-Going Reminders
Morning Car Drop Off - We need your help
For the safety of everyone, follow these procedures if you are driving in the morning car rider line behind the building:
-
Wait to drop off your child(ren) until you are in the drop-off zone and signalled by a staff member . The drop-off zone is between the crosswalk near the dining hall doors (Door 16) to the corner of the building.
-
Do not proceed or bypass vehicles where students are exiting a vehicle and approaching the sidewalk.
-
Throughout the process, drive slowly and cautiously. (Sometimes the actions of middle school students can be unpredictable!)
The safety of our students, staff, and families must remain our top priority. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
