Delayed Opening, Early Dismissal, and Closure Procedures

Student and staff safety is the priority in making a decision in response to weather-related conditions. A review of our procedures for delayed openings, early dismissals and school closures (traditional snow day or emergency remote learning day) that may result from either actual or anticipated inclement weather is outlined below.

Decision-Making Process:

In making a decision, ongoing collaboration between the following personnel and municipalities occurs: Derry Police Department, Derry Public Works, Derry School District Maintenance Department, First Student, Pinkerton Academy, and other local school districts. Additional state and local resources are also consulted depending upon the timing and severity of the impending storm.

Communication:

An announcement for either a delay or closure is typically made by 5:30 am the morning of the decision. Early dismissal announcements may vary depending on the timing of weather related conditions. The District utilizes a rapid notification service, allowing a telephone call/voice message, text, and email to be sent to parents/guardians as the primary means of immediate communication. Information will also be posted on the Derry Cooperative School District Website, Twitter, and Facebook and will be sent to the following media:
